Reading an ADF schedule
An alternate-day schedule repeats every 48 hours, so it does not line up with the week. Over two weeks there are seven fasts, and the fasting days fall on different weekdays in the second week from the first.
Each row is one fast: when it starts, when it ends, and by implication the 12-hour eating window that runs from its end to the start of the next. If your start is 7:00 PM, every fast starts at 7:00 PM and every eating window is 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
To keep the same weekdays every week instead, use the 36-hour fasting schedule, which ties fasts to days you choose.
Questions
How many fasts are there in a week of ADF?
Three or four, depending on where the week falls: the cycle is two days long, so seven fasts fit in fourteen days.
Can I keep this schedule somewhere?
Start this fast puts it into the ADF Chronicles tracker, which shows it as a calendar, counts down each fast and records how each one went. It runs in your browser and can be added to your phone's home screen.
What happens when the clocks change?
A fast is measured in real hours. On the night the clocks go back, a 16-hour fast that starts at 8:00 PM ends at 11:00 AM by the clock, not at noon. The calculator and the tracker both count real hours, and the calculator marks any fast that has a clock change inside it.
Is this medical advice?
No. The calculator does arithmetic on times. It knows nothing about your health and cannot tell you whether fasting, or a fast of this length, is suitable for you. Talk to a healthcare professional before you start, and read the safety information.
